Shangri-La Vancounver is located in Downtown Vancouver is a one-hotel-fits-all affair. A glitzy, glassy high-rise just a quick walk from Stanley Park and the Harbor, it has luxury laden over every feature: spoiling spa, Michelin-starred chef restaurant, and the Chinese tea lounge at Xi Shi, and city views to swoon over.
What was the most memorable portions of this afternoon tea was the live pianist performing during tea service. His performance was lovely and totally made this tea very enjoyable, as you may listen to a clip from my Instagram embedded above. Service was fantastic, as staff was willing to meet every possible need fulfilled and they are the utmost friendly and professional people.
The teas itself (we had Earl Grey and my friend had Ceylon Ginger) were good and flavorful. The fare was tasty. Our favorites were the savory options of the smoked Sockeye salmon, lemon caper and cream cheese spiral and the curried pink shrimp eclair. The sweets were generally done well but it’s on the traditional vein of afternoon tea sweets with a nod to the local Canadian flavors.
We also adored the bold, Japanese-made fine China that has an old Chinese folk story behind the creation of the custom pattern.
(Admittedly, this post is late for publication since I had many things to do since I came back home from this Seattle-Vancouver trip. As of recently, this lounge has closed about a week ago.)
