[Translate] During my trip to Italy, I did make a stop over to the charming small city of Parma. When my friends and I rolled out of the train station in Parma, it looked very urban compared to the lush pastoral landscape I have seen in many food documentaries that took place in the city. I know it sounds naive but it’s the first thought that crossed my mind. [Translate] One of the dinners we had while in Milan was at this modern, informal wine bar with very good food called Pisacco. This is the sister restaurant to Dry Milano. We started off with a lovely, refreshingly bubbly Franciacorta with house made potato chips that are wonderfully crispy, thick cut and fresh from the fryer and the crunchy puffed quinoa chips. [Translate] For a place that serves good cocktails and pizza in Milan, do head to Dry Milano. The bar section itself is beautiful with the small dangling lights by the windows and there is a large communal table for a large party who does want to hang out near the door. There is a larger dining room space at the back with many tables and modern abstract video stills displayed on the wall. We started off with cocktails called Life and the South Italia 75. [Translate] If you have read anything about Florence’s cuisine, it’s a city that takes immense pride for its locally raised beef and eating it. Buca Lapi is one of the oldest restaurants in Florence and serves a fantastic steak. When you enter the subterranean restaurant, you’d see the open kitchen with immense sides of Chianina beef, This restaurant is part of the winery, which is located in Palazzo Antinori, the Renaissance palace that has been the winery’s home since the 1500s. [Translate] Chef Heinz Beck has a mini-empire of restaurants, stretching from Italy (Rome and Tuscany) to Portugal, Dubai (which just opened), London (Ora by Heinz Beck at Brown’s Hotel) and (from late 2014) Tokyo. His flagship, La Pergola, opened in 1994 and is situated on the top floor of the Cavalieri hotel, which is perched on one of the hills of Rome and overlooks St Peter’s Basilica.
