Osteria Morini’s exterior, Chef/Co-Owner Michael White & Hand Carving 30-month aged prosciutto di Parma Prosciutto di Parma threw their 50th Anniversary party at Osteria Morini. Magnum bottles of Fattoria Paradiso Sangiovese di Romagna 1993, Various cocktails, Pecorino Dolce and my plate of Prosciutto di Parma Since this is a prosciutto party, almost everything served have touches of that beloved, cured Italian ham – even the cocktails and desserts. The Melone e Prosciutto cocktail is composed of melon infused El Dorado Rum, Cocchi Americano, Elcone Sherry, melon purée, with a smoked salt and Prosciutto rim. Initially salty and crunchy from the..

Italian style braised beef sandwich & Red Wine Marinated Egg at VIP Preview Last night’s 6th annual Choice Eats 2013 taken place in the 69th Armory was an intense food fest featuring over fifty (50) restaurants, bakeries, and other food vendors who were in Village Voice’s “Fork in the Road.” Since there’s so many to choose and remember after my food comatose (and possibly tipsy from the beer and spirits) state, here’s a couple of dishes I really enjoyed:
Lobby of The Westin Governor Morris & Buick cars This weekend I was invited to attend Buick Discovery Tour 2013 at The Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, New Jersey. It was a collaboration between Food & Wine and Buick with its goals of making memories and lasting impressions with food, wine, and of course, test driving a few Buick cars. I was wondering after being invited was: I’m generally not their typical target consumer and I never drove/own any Buicks or any American car, actually, so I thought, it’s unusual but I attended this event with an open mind.
Missy Robbins of A Voce and some of her winning dishes: Meatball (filled with ricotta), Stufato, and Pig’s liver & onion This year’s Cochon 555 is a pork-centric event at Chelsea Piers and featured an all-female lineup of top-notch toques: Missy Robbins (A Voce), Alex Guarnaschelli (Butter), Leah Cohen (Pig and Khao), Elizabeth Falkner (Krescendo), Sueños chef Sue Torres and Shanna Pacifico (Back Forty West). Each chef will turn a whole heritage-breed hog into a snout-to-tail smorgasbord for 20 judges including and Hearth’s Marco Canora—and 400 guests, who will crown one the Princess of Porc – and that was Missy..
A few nights ago, I had the honor to be invited to Four Seasons‘ cocktail party launching their newest website Taste. Taste is essentially their platform to engage and inspire food connoisseurs like us with the luxurious hotel chain’s chefs and sommeliers’ of their recipes and inspirations. If you take a look at my photos and read the descriptions of what’s been served to us, the menu’s muse is the apple but applied in different mediums like duck, venison, and pork. All were executed well but my favorites are highlighted on this post.
Chef Hooni Kim of Danji and his dish Yook Hwe This year’s StarChefs ICC 2012 was a short one for me personally, as I was only able to attend to the first day of this fun food symposium. That said, I still learned quite a bit from the several hours watching prominent chefs lecturing and demonstrating their ideas and techniques and it’s still an honor to cover their event. Chef Hooni Kim of Danji demonstrated his dish Yook Hwe, essentially a Korean-style beef tartare except made with exceptionally silky Australian wagyu beef instead of locally raised beef he normally uses..
Scenes at Let Us Eat Local: Centerpiece of local vegetables and flowers, Executive Director of Just Food Jacquie Berger, Gramercy Tavern’s Executive Chef Michael Anthony, and Microgreens passed around for sampling Last night was the 5th Annual Just Food’s Let Us Eat Local benefit tasting at the Altman Building. There were 42 restaurants and small food vendors along with 13 local wineries and breweries within the New York City area. Just Food is a non-profit organization that connects communities and local farms with the resources and support they need to make fresh, locally grown, healthy food accessible to all New..
At Le Fooding’s entrance and the lengthy line For its fourth year, upstart French culinary group Le Fooding* used Brooklyn as its muse for their five-day long dinners and brunches, taking along the young modern chefs of the United Kingdom and France to cook. Of their numerous events, I’ve attended their Campfire Sessions #02, an evening of what seems to be collaborations between two seemingly different food entities (for example, The Young Turks, UK with the Mile End Deli). Regardless, I attended this event mainly because of pastry god Pierre Hermé was supposedly going to be there. Lo and behold,..
Mini pies and apple apertif on the ferry & storm clouds rolling in Meatopia, organized by Josh Ozersky & Co., at Randall’s Island this year was a pretty awesome barbecue event. Comparing to last year’s Meatopia at Brooklyn Piers, this was a lot better organized, there’s actually lots of space to walk around, and of course there’s the glorious smoked, grilled, and/or roasted meats from prominent chefs from the New York City area and beyond. The partial explanation of the ample space at Randall’s Island was because of Mother Nature being a tempestuous woman. Earlier in the morning, it was..
