NYC Wine & Food Festival 2014: Meatopia X

Celebrity chefs on deck – Paul Qui of Qui (Austin, TX); Seamus Mullen of Tertulia & El Comado (NYC); Jamie Bissonnette of Toro NYC; Matt Lightner of Atera (NYC) NYC Wine & Food Festival wrapped up its 4-day food extravaganza with Meatopia X. This event is not for the faint of heart, especially if you are a vegetarian. This is a truly a meat festival, celebrating the carnivore in most of us and the animals that we’re consuming expertly grilled, smoked, and/or barbecued by the celebrity chefs locally and one from the United Kingdom (Chef Richard Turner of Hawksmoor). Meatopia 2012 at Randall’s Island – Memphis in May meets the Glastonbury Festival

Mini pies and apple apertif on the ferry & storm clouds rolling in Meatopia, organized by Josh Ozersky & Co., at Randall’s Island this year was a pretty awesome barbecue event. Comparing to last year’s Meatopia at Brooklyn Piers, this was a lot better organized, there’s actually lots of space to walk around, and of course there’s the glorious smoked, grilled, and/or roasted meats from prominent chefs from the New York City area and beyond. The partial explanation of the ample space at Randall’s Island was because of Mother Nature being a tempestuous woman. Earlier in the morning, it was..

Recap of Meatopia 2011

Burning in the hot sun; Views of Downtown Manhattan & Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge Yesterday at Meatopia 2011, was literally the hottest event I’ve ever attended. Temperatures in New York City was in the high 90s, feeling like 100 and being surrounded with the attendees and have burning coals and smokers nearby to make you feel even hotter. (I even witnessed a chef taking half a bag of ice and placed it on his head for 30 seconds for relief.) Thank goodness for the unlimited supply of cold bottled Fiji water and Honeydrop iced teas to cool you down, and..

Meatopia: A Smoked Meat Carnivore’s Dream with a Side of Celebrity Chefs

On my way to Governors Island Meatopia. I would describe it as Big Apple BBQ but smaller (it’s on Governors Island) and arguably, a bit more chaotic as I’ve observed over time. But at least the weather was glorious for grilling, socializing and barbecue. I left my house early to meet up with my eating companion to Governors Island for three reasons. My Meatopia tickets and pass *1) It’s always packed with a ton of hungry masses (it’s publicized by the big media venues like NY Times, Time Out New York, etc.) and (2) food always runs out early. (3)..
