If there’s a coffeeshop/cafe that I wish there was a version of in NYC, that would be OTL. The large, bright, airy space that is minimialist and admittedly, very Instagrammable and the food and beverages are healthy-ish and satisfying. There’s wi-fi to work and it doesn’t get too loud when it gets busy here that you can do some work, if needed or have a casual breakfast or lunch meeting here. Also, it’s in the heart of a fabulous shopping neighborhood of Miami Design District, where there’s many designer boutiques (Fendi is next door to OTL, Prada is down the block, etc.) and the cool Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami is a few blocks away.
The cortado was very good – strong espresso with just the right amount of milk. The matcha latte and matcha lemonade were balanced and had a good amount of matcha flavor showing through.
The avocado on toast with the addition of a sunny side egg on top is a typical urban dweller’s breakfast and it’s a very solid one. The egg yolk was perfectly runny and the use of pickled red onions and chili flakes were a smart additions to give some exciting flavors to the toast. The ham and cheese sandwich with Dijon mustard and cornichons on ciabatta was tasty. The curry chicken salad flavored with tumeric, slices of red chili peppers, currants and cilantro on rustic white bread was delightful. Vibrant flavors and right ratio of bread to filling and my personal favorite of the three.
They do purvey some of Zak the Baker’s pastries and use some of the brand’s breads on their sandwiches. We had a butter croissant with our cups of matcha latte and cortado and it was flaky and buttery.
