Earlier this week a Ladurée loyalist friend of mine told me about this macaron house’s limited release of their fashionable box Pied de Coq – a take of the traditional houndstooth pattern with bold fluorescent colors. I do admit I am a fan of their beautiful boxes and good macarons, so I stopped by yesterday at their Madison Avenue boutique.

As expected, the line snaked around twice filled with Ladurée macaron lovers, mostly residents of this neighborhood. Waiting for nearly 30 minutes, I finally got my box of 8 Black Forest macarons filled inside the Pied de Coq box ($25). In case you are not aware, beyond Ladurée’s traditional flavors: pistachio, rasbperry, chocolate, coffee, blackcurrent violet, cinnamon raisin, etc., they tend to release monthly featured flavors. And this month is Black Forest.

The reasoning of me choosing an entire box of Black Forest macarons, beyond having a variation of different flavors is because my guests of my Thanksgiving dinner tried and ate every traditional Ladurée macaron flavors and might as well equally give them something new to try. Also the fact I’m making a lot of desserts at home, I do not have to go crazy with getting a bunch of macarons.

The black forest macaron is pretty on point with what one expects a black forest taste like – deep dark chocolate macaron shell and ganache meets tart cherry flavor and most importantly, it is not too sweet. The expected texture of Ladurée macaron is there – thin crust meets soft, moist crumb with a good ratio of ganache filling.

In case you need an emergency dessert or host/hostess gift to pick up for Thanksgiving, they are open today until 3 PM, if my memory serves me correct.

At any rate, Happy Thanksgiving!
