Afternoon Tea at The Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman

Corner room area of Silver Palm
Looking in toward the handsome bar area of Silver Palm

The Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman is currently considered the best luxury hotel in the Cayman Islands. It is a AAA Five Diamond property and occupies 144 acres across the Caribbean to the North Sound, facing Seven Mile Beach’s shoreline.

When we entered the spacious and beautiful Silver Palm dining area that divides into two sections — a handsome, dark wood bar on one end and an elegant tea room flooded with lots of natural light.

Cheers!

We took up an entire corner since it’s all six of us ladies having tea. I liked the fine detail of us having the opportunity to sniff the vials of teas that we may have to get an idea of what the flavors are. Most of us opted for the vanilla rooibos (even I opted for that) since the creamy notes and body of the vanilla tea compliments the pastries we will be having and the remainder went the purist route of some of the green teas offered. We also started off with glasses of Champagne since it makes afternoon tea much more festive and fun.

Scones
Salmon and eggplant tea sandwiches
Caprese and tango chicken curry tea sandwiches

The scones (plain and mango) were nicely done – flaky, not too sweet and not too dry. The savory tea sandwiches were delicious. We had baba ghanouj, caprese (tomatoes are in season in Cayman), mango curry, smoked salmon and cream cheese on rye, and egg salad.

Pineapple financier and mango tatin and chocolate eclair
Brioche filled with whipped cream and rose macaron

As we went up to the sweet tiers, the best of the bunch were the pineapple financier (the oblong tart-like pastry topped with black sesame seeds) and the mango tatin. The other pastries (the tropezienne – brioche with whipped cream, rose macaron, and chocolate eclair) were good but it didn’t amaze me as the aforementioned.
