Mandarin Hotel Boston – Excellence & Luxury in the Back Bay

During our holiday weekend getaway to Boston, we stayed at Mandarin Oriental located in the Back Bay neighborhood. This hotel is luxury at its best.

When you enter the spacious lobby, which was designed with local granite and artwork, a traditional New England color scheme and the principles of feng shui. The lobby’s long, gas fireplace is a wonderful place to relax surrounded by fresh flower arrangements, tasteful Christmas decorations, and personable staff ready to create a quiet oasis within the busy city hotel.

It’s situated in the heart of an equivalent to Manhattan’s 5th Avenue shopping area; near exclusive boutiques like the Italian fine linens Frette, Gucci, and it even has its own secret passage leading to the Prudential Center.

When we checked in and entered our room, we’re shortly been greeted with cup cups of chamomile green tea to let us settle in to this beautifully furnished room and recover from our trip from New York City.

We had met one of the hotel’s staff members to give us a brief tour of this building. This hotel has a total 148 chic guest rooms and suites feature modern décor in a soothing, natural palette, and spacious square footage and high ceilings. Guests are welcomed to use the hotel’s complimentary house car (it’s a Mercedes Benz, if you’d like to know) drop-offs within a two mile radius.

The super comfortable beds are covered in luxurious Frette bedding and goose down comforters. The hotel also has five pillow options in case you have a preference for a different degree of firmness of your pillow.

The oversized bathrooms are a dream with separate soaking bathtub and walk-in shower. Plush bathrobes to be wrapped in and to be cozy in.

We were taken down to see the magnificent wood-panelled ballroom where they are setting up for a wedding. We’re told that they can change the light settings from various colors, besides its brightness. The lounge room just outside the doors of the ballroom, is a great reception area to have a cocktail party or a smaller event.

On this particular floor, you would see beautiful modern sculptures and paintings (some are Asian inspired) dotted around the walls and lounge area. Not too far is the corridor leading to the entry of the Prudential Center shopping center.

The 16,000-square-foot five-star spa features a vitality pool and a state-of-the-art Kinesis wall, and recently pioneered the brand’s new Beauty by Mandarin Oriental treatments that harness electrical currents to rejuvenate your skin. When you enter the spa, you would hear tranquil waters flowing from the waterfall feature and the welcoming staff would escort you to the changing area (each gender has their own separate facilities) and has Quartz crystal steam rooms, vitality pools, experience showers, ice fountains and relaxation lounges.

On the same floor as the Spa, there are Lifestyle rooms to create a relaxing urban escape. The refined interiors have been decorated in subtle New England-inspired shades of taupe or teal. There’s wood floors, silk curtains, sumptuous linens and a wonderful twin-sized daybed positioned under the window. The spacious marble bathrooms offer room to relax with a stand-alone bathtub and separate walk-in shower. It’s for guests who want to check in the hotel to have a day of relaxation after their spa treatments.

To finish our tour, we took a peek at the Chef’s Table Room, adjacent to the hotel’s restaurant, Asana and looked at the kitchen preparing for the wedding upstairs.

When we returned to our room, we’re unexpectedly greeted with bottles of Norwegian Voss water and a small vase of chocolate covered strawberries and a handwritten note to welcome me (seen at the top of the post). Now that’s service.
