The private room where we dined; Chef Floyd Cardoz; Richard Morais In celebration of the December 2nd Blu-ray and DVD release of The Hundred-Foot Journey — starring Helen Mirren, directed by Lasse Hallstrom and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. I was invited to join the author of the novel that this movie adapted Richard Morais and Chef Floyd Cardoz (Executive Chef of White Street) who was one of the four culinary consultants for the movie, and others, for an exclusive culinary experience and discussions about the film, culinary arts, food and family dining at White Street. What was..

Atera – Intimate and Interesting

My birthday cake Financier Last weekend was my birthday. I celebrated initially with a group of friends and family by sharing the Marechal Praline cake that is currently part of Financier’s holiday cakes with some celebratory booze (sweet white port and Rémy Martin XO Cognac). I chose this cake since it would appeal to a lot of my guests. It’s a moist, chocolate praline mousse and they liked the delicately crisp feuillatine texture found in the mousse. Many thanks for Financier for delivering the beautiful and delicious cake to my home! Right after the cake, a good friend of mine..

Brunch at The Butterfly

The Butterfly – Exterior, Interior and Our drinks & brunch menu Chef Michael White’s newest venture opened in late June of this year called The Butterfly. This is place is meant to be a place for well made cocktails (the drinks menu is collaborated with one of the most respected bartenders in the industry, Eben Freeman (if you could recall the olden days of Tailor with the solid cocktails)) that serves very good retro American food. The retro theme of the 1950s are nuanced throughout the restaurant from the font on the menus, the classic cocktails like Mai Tai and..

Distilled NY

Interiors of Distilled NY; Table setting We recently ate at Distilled NY, helmed by Momofuku Noodle Bar veteran Shane Lyons, a new-ish restaurant in TriBeCa that opened back in early June. It is a large space; a sprawling, 110-seat restaurant styled after a classic American public house. The menu contains the dishes are familiar, approachable, and hearty but each gets a twist on the flavors. Our cocktails: Smuggle n’ Rum and Franklin Fizz; Tasting of Meads & Bowl of fresh popped popcorn We started with cocktails of Smuggle n’ Rum made of lavender, banana rum, Angostura bitters, lemon oil ($14)..

Dinner at Kori

Kori’s exterior and interior of the dining room Kori is a small, narrow, elegant Korean restaurant in TriBeCa. If you read their menu, they serve mainly traditional Korean fare but a few dishes does cater to the neighborhood. They plating them a bit more polished and comparing to a couple of really old school Korean restaurants, toning down the spiciness so it can appeal to everyone. Even though there’s a few tweaks, the depth of flavors in the dishes we ate (I went to dinner there with my parents) were incredible and thoroughly enjoyed by all. During the time I..

Corton – An Extended Tasting Menu for My Birthday

Corton’s Exterior, Interior, and my birthday Champagne toast For those of you who followed me over the years, notably on Twitter, it’s not a secret that I ate at Corton around the same date back in 2008. Pretty much, I live tweeted through that dinner as I learned back then, unexpectedly and to my own distress, photographs of any kind was banned. From my own memory, I recalled beautiful plates of food served to me. It was generally good but can’t pinpoint exactly what really blew my mind. Fast forward to several days ago, I made the visit again for..

Joseph Drouhin Wine Dinner at Tribeca Grill

Tribeca Grill (exterior), Inside the private dining room; Laurent Drohin of Joseph Drohin’s family & menu Last night I was invited to a Rue La La dinner partnered with Tribeca Grill featuring Joseph Drouhin wines from Burgundy, France. Laurent Drouhin, the great grandson of Joseph Drouhin joined the festivities for educating us his family’s wine and wine in general. This five-course dinner paired with wines seemed pretty epic. Setting and Drouhin Saint-Veran Entering Tribeca standby, co-owned by renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent and legendary actor Robert De Niro, it feels comfortable to have a casual dinner with friends and family or..

Lunch at Bouley

This past Friday afternoon, I had lunch with a good friend of mine, Michael at Bouley located in TriBeCa; Chef David Bouley’s flagship restaurant. For a chef that is pretty well known in NYC for having a miniature empire in TriBeCa – from the casual take-out cafe at Bouley Studio (that was the former location of Bouley restaurant) to the newest and intriguing (for me at least) collaboration with Chefs David Bouley, Isao Yamada and Hiroki Murashima at Brushstroke, a Kaiseki-focused Japanese restaurant – I had some high hopes to have a pretty good lunch here. Should I blame myself..
