Lovely Stay at Hôtel du Louvre (Paris, France)

Lobby

When my traveling companion and I were in Paris, we stayed at the grand Five Star Hôtel du Louvre, a Hyatt property. The hotel is located at the busy intersection of the Avenue de l’Opera and Rue de Richelieu near the famed I.M. Pei pyramids at the Louvre. It’s very conveniently close to the Opéra Garnier and the Palais Royal. Place Vendôme, Place de la Concorde, the Marais neighborhood, and the Tuileries Garden.

Built in 1855, this hotel is one of the oldest in the City of Lights (it was a former mansion of the Champagne family Taittinger). It features 177 guest rooms, including 43 Suites, each one with its own distinguished style.

As we walked through the airy high-ceilinged and marble-columned lobby which had a sweeping staircase featuring a replica of the Venus de Milo and took the side glass encased lift and up to the second floor.

The hallway to our View Queen Room was decorated with quirky and charming framed paintings of animal portraits. The room room was standard looking but the view of Avenue l’Opera was the focal point of the room. The room’s marble and spacious and nice.

Overall, my stay at the Hôtel du Louvre was a good one, and I would stay there again. The location can’t be beat, especially for the first-timers to Paris. With it’s centralized spot across the street from the Louvre and the Tuileries and an easy walk to Notre Dame and other points of interest, it’s a no-brainer for convenience.

We have learned that renovations were underway soon and I’m curious how the hotel will look. Part of me adores the eccentric paintings and wallpaper patterns around the hotel.
