For the past several years, Paris was and still is having its trend for a really good cocktail and bars (like New York City) for the past several years. We managed to squeeze in time for one particularly excellent cocktail bar called Little Red Door out in Marais on the 3rd arrondissement.
When you arrive to the front door of Little Red Door, you will encounter a nondescript building with double doors with one of them being a little red door with black and white checkered flooring, hence its name. This door is actually not functional as we found out and its entrance is on the side (found that out after my friend gently pushed on it by accident and it opened). This door opens to a dark bar with cozy couches, very comfortable cushioned bar stools (you won’t mind sitting on it for hours), and an elevated nook in the back that is ideal for people watching.
The bar menu is short, well-curated and creative especially when you see the custom illustrated board book of various famous paintings that supposedly depict a mood of the cocktail and it’s numbered. Our bartender prefer us not to pull out the hidden description card of cocktail but you may. The bartenders here are very capable of making cocktails that aren’t on the menu but we stuck with the menu since it’s our first time here.
We enjoyed our expertly mixed drinks (the use of the Suze liqueur and bitters are common) and chatted with our young bartender, who was very ebullient of the current bar scene in Paris. The drinks are perfectly balanced and it’s very creative.
We wished we had more time to spend here since it’s a laid back bar that has serious drinks but doesn’t take itself so seriously.
