The Modern Bar Room – Restaurant Week

Last Tuesday, I’ve arranged dinner with my parents at The Modern Bar Room. First timers to eat there (and it’s Restaurant Week), I know the Modern would not disappoint me, as I’ve eaten here a few times throughout the years, Restaurant Week or not, and had good to very good experiences.

Packed Bar Back of the Room Crowded, sort of

Despite the fact we did have an early reservation for dinner, the tables were about half full and as expected, the sleek bar were packed with suited businessmen and lawyers hanging around for their Happy Hour.

Promptly seated, we’ve perused through the RW menu and decided upon what we crave. (Note that their RW menu was pretty much a truncated version of their normal menu.)

The Best Dishes/Things I Ate In 2009

I know I’m way overdue for a post to you all. Granted, I didn’t write as many posts as I should in regards to my Hong Kong/Zhuhai, China trip and a few other places I’ve eaten in New York City. But here’s a recap of what I thought was memorable during the year of 2009 in no particular order (and some of them I haven’t written posts but they’re good enough to mention here).

Side note: I can’t believe we’re ending the first decade of the second millennia already!

Liang Pi Liang Pi

Liang Pi from Xi’an Famous Foods in Flushing. I love this addictive, heaping mess of cold, chewy noodles made of wheat flour, large cubes of gluten, bean sprouts, and cilantro. It’s pleasantly spicy to everything that’s cool. I never thought eating vegetarian would taste any better. The best part, it’s under $5.

The Modern Dining Room – Tasting Menu

I felt compelled for a few years to try The Modern‘s tasting menu, after seeing Ulterior Epicure’s gorgeous photos of his experience and hearing it from a friend who did enjoy his dinner thoroughly for week before I went, I thought it’s about time to give it a whirl and go there.

And as you read from the title, I had the tasting menu (the mid-summer seasonal tasting menu). The captain gave me a copy to follow along this meal.
