Atera – Intimate and Interesting

My birthday cake Financier Last weekend was my birthday. I celebrated initially with a group of friends and family by sharing the Marechal Praline cake that is currently part of Financier’s holiday cakes with some celebratory booze (sweet white port and Rémy Martin XO Cognac). I chose this cake since it would appeal to a lot of my guests. It’s a moist, chocolate praline mousse and they liked the delicately crisp feuillatine texture found in the mousse. Many thanks for Financier for delivering the beautiful and delicious cake to my home! Right after the cake, a good friend of mine..

Belated Birthday Dinner at Eleven Madison Park (2012)

Exterior and interiors of Eleven Madison Park and my (belated) birthday card I’ve been trying to keep with tradition to celebrate my birthday at Eleven Madison Park (as I have last year and in 2010; I’ll shorten Eleven Madison Park as EMP), albeit a bit late since November was fully booked by the time I’ve tried making a reservation but it’s a first for me to have dinner there and eating a winter tasting menu. (I ended up having a closer to my birth date dinner at Humm and Guidara’s other restaurant The NoMad.) This 3* Michelin restaurant has been..

Seasonal Tasting Menu Dinner at Manresa, Los Gatos, CA for My Dad’s Birthday

Outside of Manresa I have heard about Manresa and its Chef-Proprietor David Kinch for the past several years from the food media and it’s been placed on my list of restaurants I must eat since then. (Within the past 6 months, Manresa was earned a 2* Michelin rating and a spot within The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.) With the timing of my then graduation from my Master’s program and my dad’s birthday, it’s just one of those very good reasons not to pass up this opportunity to celebrate and dine at Manresa. (I wrote back on my post this earlier..

Black Périgord truffle tasting dinner at Ai Fiori

Ai Fiori, my Périgord truffles from Gourmet Attitude on Ai Fiori’s beautiful bowl, and Mare e Monte If you recall my post on Gourmet Attitude’s Périgord truffles, I proposed that I would take these heavenly scented black fungus to a restaurant to cook something creative with them for my mother’s birthday. Eventually, Ai Fiori was willing to accept my proposition. Even though this is my first time eating at Ai Fiori, I entrusted the kitchen with these expensive beauties and know they’ll let my family, especially my mother, have a good time here. (It also helps a bit that they’ve..

Tasting Menu Dinner at 10 Downing – Hearty & Delicious

Interior, Floral centerpiece & Tasting Menu I recently went to 10 Downing for their dinner tasting menu of four courses for $49. With Chef Jonnatan Leiva, a San Francisco expat who specializes on farm-to-table cuisine, it sounds like it’s worth trying and made reservations. This place felt like a spacious, downtown restaurant at a great location in West Village. Random photos, even a landscape photo of Mexico, and artifacts that strewn across the walls. Large floor-to-ceiling windows; it looks trendy yet it feels comfortable for someone to bring a friend (or several) to have a drink at their bar and..

The Modern Dining Room – Tasting Menu

Taken place on September 15, 2009. Interior I felt compelled for a few years to try The Modern‘s tasting menu, after seeing Ulterior Epicure’s gorgeous photos of his experience and hearing it from a friend who did enjoy his dinner thoroughly for week before I went, I thought it’s about time to give it a whirl and go there. Tasting menu And as you read from the title, I had the tasting menu (the mid-summer seasonal tasting menu). The captain gave me a copy to follow along this meal. (more…)

Tasting Lunch at Gramercy Tavern

Eaten back on September 2nd, 2009. (I’m working on it…) Dining Room Interior I have to admit, if I haven’t said it yet, I love Gramercy Tavern. It has the casual, down-home earthiness yet it’s innovative of what one would expect from fancy pants fare. The service is great, as expected from a Danny Meyer institution, and I absolutely love their food. They haven’t steered me wrong from the multiple times I’ve eaten here and ever since Executive Chef Michael Anthony helmed the kitchen. I went to their dining room for the tasting lunch. Back when I ate here (on..

My (Early) Birthday Lunch at Eleven Madison Park

They personalized it Back last Wednesday (my actual birthday was yesterday, Sunday), I splurged my own lunch early for my birthday at Eleven Madison Park. I remembered liking this place a lot when I visited here over a year ago (for their tasting menu, not counting Restaurant Week) and I’m still hearing raves about the food. (more…)
