Nespresso VertuoLine

Nespresso recently released a new machine and espresso pod line, VertuoLine ($299). It is a sturdy coffee and espresso maker with a delightfully intuitive layout. Unlike its bland single cup counterparts, Nespresso spiced up its design with some retro style elements. Nespresso is known for making espresso-centric machines. The Vertuo is Nespresso’s very first single cup espresso and coffee maker. It pummps out regular serving of espresso or an eight-ounce cup of coffee. Nespresso pods have are redesigned for the new machine. They currently look more like tiny space ships with barcodes on the printed on the edges than shiny..

El Rey Coffee – A Great Coffee Spot in the LES

Interior of El Rey Coffee & Making my Cappuccino El Rey is a very new coffee shop that just opened in the Lower East Side by Nicholas Morgenstern of a very good East Village restaurant, Goat Town. If you have not realized this, the Lower East Side doesn’t have many options for very good coffee compared to other parts of Manhattan. El Rey is a caffeine life saver for the area. They exclusively use Counter Culture coffee beans and make espresso shots off a gleaming Strada machine (makes a wonderful cappuccino and every coffee geek’s dream if he/she has the..

La Colombe Torrefaction in Chicago

La Colombe Torrefaction, Chicago: Exterior, Interior, delicate flowers by the window, baked goods display As probably most of you might know, I am a die-hard coffee nerd/addict. I do admit that I’m pretty spoiled by the coffee culture as I’m coming from New York City, I have access to a lot of very good to excellent coffee shops here. When I was planning my trip to Chicago, I was mildly freaking out thinking there might be a lack of my essential need in the morning. I don’t want my travel companion to face the ugly side of me when I..

Nespresso SoHo Flagship Boutique Preview Opening

Last Tuesday, Nespresso invited me to their SoHo flagship boutique store preview opening. While they did throw a lavish soirée attendees like myself and several other print and web publications with Champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and a three-course meal, this isn’t the focus of the evening. We’re talking about the store, the brand, and their espresso/espresso machine. Interior: Cafe, Cushy chairs, Capsule mosaic This two-story flagship is technically the second freestanding location in Manhattan. The first one is located on the Upper East Side on the posh Madison Avenue. The idea to make this location their flagship because it’s larger and..

A Ladies' Lunch at Devi (Winter Restaurant Week 2008) & Espresso

I kicked off Restaurant Week (back on Tuesday, January 22nd) with lunch with my three girl friends: Giulia, Seungmi, and Helen, at Devi. Yep, we’re exploring into realm of haute Indian cuisine since what we’ve encounter in our pasts were heavy, greasy, fire breathing-spicy Indian food. We had high hopes for this place since I’ve heard a lot about it on Chowhound. And yes, I do acknowledge the fact that they do serve a prix fixe lunch on a normal basis but we craved Indian food. Interior (more…)

A Late Lunch/Fooding with Sam: Boqueria & Cafe Grumpy

The past Thursday, when the weather in NYC was atrocious: it rained then changed to sleet, transformed to snow, then back to the pouring of rain. Isn’t Mother Nature great?! Sighs… The good thing was that fact I don’t have classes but I had to study for my finals since they’re starting on Monday (4 finals in a row = mind suicide). Anyways, ever since I had my previous dinner at Momofuku Ssam with Sam and a bunch of other friends, I never really hanged out or went fooding with him. Since he’s going back to his hometown in Missouri..
