Bar 8 at Mandarin Oriental Paris (Paris, France)

<img Mandarin Oriental Paris is a stunning, sleek hotel found in one of the toniest shopping and sightseing neighborhoods in Paris. The Mandarin Oriental is one of my favorite luxury hotel brands to visit and stay with whenever possible (as seen from my travels to Asia and Boston). This time around we dropped by for pre-dinner drinks and snacks at Bar 8 at their zen-like courtyard after passing though their glamourous and futuristic lobby and dark, chic bar with an eye catching marble bar. Monarch Rooftop Lounge (NYC)

Monarch Rooftop Lounge is arguably the rooftop with the up-close-and-personal feel to the Empire State Building. When we arrived there by sunset and see the light transitions from golden hour to the silver-white moonlight, we see the lovely details that makes the Empire State Building one of the most beloved landmarks in New York City. Getting to the Monarch is an interesting experience. There were at least two bouncers with lists containing the day’s guests with reservations to check your name and communicate upstairs if there are any seats available for those who are coming in without one. Once up..

Fantastic Tiki-Inspired Cocktails at Bar Le Mal Nécessaire (Montreal, Canada)

If in Montreal, when you want to grab a serious cocktail but isn’t pretentious, Bar Le Mal Nécessaire (or Necessary Evil). I should add, you should like your tiki drinks. Le Mal Nécessaire is in a basement of a building between a small Chinese restaurant and an Asian shop of some sort in Chinatown. You will know you’re at the right place when you see a glowing, bright green pineapple-shaped neon lights at the stairwell. When you descend into the relative darkness, you hear old school hip hop playing not too loudly on the speakers. Patrons chatting amongst each other..

Up On 20 at Hyatt Herald Square (NYC)

Summertime calls for outdoor drinking and since we are in the city of skyscrapers, you’d have rooftops to drink in the views and your cocktail. Up on 20 at Hyatt Herald Square is a rooftop bar in Midtown, Manhattan that has the Empire State Building almost up close and you can see glimpses of the World Trade Center and the New Jersey skyline when you are looking at their south terrace. We started our evening with a glass of refreshing glass of Prosecco ($12) and Sunny Honey ($18 – for all cocktails on the menu) cocktail and took the last..

Glamour Bar & M on The Bund (Shanghai, China) – Impressive Views of The Bund & Very Fine Food and Drinks

Glamour Bar: Exterior/entrance to the building; Entrance to Glamour Bar; Part of the interior and looking out at the Bund from the bar The two venues my family and I went to this particular — Glamour Bar and M on The Bund — are part of the M Restaurant Group. These two luxurious places are not pretentious but definitely swanky and if you are a Western expat, it mostly makes you feel like home with the cordial service and familiar Continental fare and drinks. These two are meant to impress anyone you need or want to knock their socks off..

Dinner at Ivy Bar & Grill (NYC)

We had a recent after-work dinner at Ivy in New York Citys’ Hell’s Kitchen. It’s a bustling, loud bar and restaurant that works great for the after work crowd. Since we were starving from a long day of work, we did order a couple of dishes beyond the a few drinks. We started with drinks of the Bohemian Rhapsody (a gin based with elderflower liqueur and fresh cucumber; $11) and Passion fruit margarita (based on silver tequila, passion fruit juice and triple sec; $12). Dinner at Hawker Bar

Hawker Bar exterior, back garden & menus Hawker Bar focuses on foods from Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on street food like skewers of chicken hearts dunked in sake and soy sauce. This space used to be the Sunburnt Calf, where many locals adored this bar to have a drink and conversation in this Prospect Heights neighborhood. Cocktails No. 1 & 3 Their cocktails were very refreshing for the humid evening we were there. The No 1 (on right) made of 42 Below Vodka, Thai Basil infusion, rhubarb bitters, lemon juice, and soda. The No 3 Zu Bison Grass Vodka,..

Pounds & Ounces in Chelsea, NYC

Exterior, Interior & Drinks Pounds & Ounces is located in Chelsea. This bar and restaurant looks like an Art Deco-inspired bar that looks quite handsome, especially when night sets in. The dining area is dark wood with an interesting boxing mural and dotted with two lounge tables with plush leather chairs. While we’re perusing the menu, my friend had the potent yet fruity Chelsea Breeze ($14) and I had a good Casa Lapostolle Cabernet Sauvignon ($10) that has cherry notes and tobacco nose with medium tannins that could stand up to a burger.
