I know I haven’t written in a loong time. It’s not that I’m ignoring you intentionally, it’s just that my life is flooded with a lot of drama that I don’t want to go into depth. If you can recall recently about my mom being sick and all, she has been operated a couple of days ago and she’s doing okay so far. She’s just fatigued and a bit dizzy since she’s been in bed for a while and the surgery has taken a bit of a toll on her. As I’ve said earlier I’m behind so I’ll catch you up with the food things that happened since my last post that was notable.
Back two Friday mornings ago, my parents and I went to Mt. Sinai Hospital to meet the surgeon and consult about what will happen to my mom and schedule the surgery. After that, I have to run a few errands in regards to school so I left my parents and walked down Madison Avenue. Somehow I was curious to about Yura & Company’s food when I was about to pass by, and just dropped in to see what they have.
I am very well aware most of you are still visiting my site for updates…and well, you know I’m not doing it that often. I apologize for not doing much just because I’m working (as I hope most of you know) and the area where I’m working at lacks any good food that doesn’t warrant my efforts on posting. So, there’s my reasons for not updating so often. I’m sorry and I thank you for my fans out there who still check on my site constantly. Did I mention I love you for doing that? If I haven’t, I LOVE you!
Onto the food…as I’ve mentioned earlier, I don’t eat out that much which means, I’m baking/cooking more often. So, I ended up baking a batch of walnut brownies from on Ina Garten’s Outrageous Brownies. And boy, aren’t they awesome…
I know some of you are wondering why I am I not updating or writing my a post this week at all? That’s because it’s an uninspiring week of food. Quite sad I have to say, partly due to the fact that I’m stressed with schoolwork (it doesn’t really end until May 21st – my only first and only day of finals, argh) and the nice weather in New York really prevents me from eating a lot. The latter argument is strange and probably hard for some of you to understand, but when the weather’s getting warmer somehow I’m unintentionally feel like eating less. Anyways, since this is not really much of a food post, it’s going to be more food porn since you’ve seen these things/places before.
For most of the week I’ve been liming (Trinidadian speak for hanging out) in Bryant Park. Since I’m a bit lazy not to go anywhere else to eat (even though I walked from 59th Street & 10th Ave), I just got myself a grilled cheddar sandwich filled with ham, pear, and mustard on cranberry-pecan bread ($6) from ‘wichcraft.
Yesterday was kind of weird. My two problems were dinner and finding out that my former blog at Blogspot is preventing me from publishing because they label it as SPAM! Why?! Especially it’s been last September that I have been publishing. Since I don’t have much faith in waiting for a response on from Blogger, I’m hoping this place won’t give me problems…my last hope is actually going to Typepad and get meself an account there. To the new readers, welcome! To my loyal readers from Blogger, thank you for reading. I really appreciate it!
Ok, enough of my problems…I want to wallow myself in food. So here it goes.
Starting from yesterday morning, I went back to Caffe Falai.
It was about 8 AM, surprisingly there wasn’t much bustle as I would imagine for a cafe or bakery spot. I had a hankering for some chocolate croissant and that’s what I ordered ($2.50).
I did take out, since it felt odd to just eat there alone and where there are no other diners eating there. It’s just the local residents who are just coming in for a cup of latte or a pastry to go. The croissant was not I was really expecting. I should have remembered that this place is meant to be Italian, not a French patisserie. So, I was surprised by the chocolate pudding/custard filling. The croissant or to be more exact, a coronetti, was still awesome though: it was über flaky, crisp, light and slightly buttery. Probably I’ll go for their chocolate pear croissant next time…
For the morning, I went to Amy’s Bread in West Village located on Bleecker & Leroy St. The only thing that appeals to me at the moment was the oat scone ($2.50). It’s crunchy on the outside, chewy and soft in the inside. It contained a ton of oats, raisins (both golden and regular), possibly chopped [...]
Ever since I’ve joined John Jay’s Student Government, life’s been too hectic to try to write my food blog unless I make a time for it. Fortunately, today’s Thursday and it’s usually my time to catch up with anything I’ve missed or work that needed to be done that I have procrastinated. So, on to the [...]
