Grand Central Oyster Bar is a 100-year old Manhattan institution for all things bivalves. The brand expanded to Park Slope, Brooklyn and opened last month (there are also two Japanese franchises and a small outpost in Newark airport).

The Brooklyn’s décor echoes the signature arches of the original space and lights of the original.

They brought some of the main restaurant’s menu to Brooklyn like the freshly shucked bivalves and other seafood specialties based on what’s offered at the market that day. Grand Central Oyster Bar Brooklyn has a bright, mostly white seafood market with a counter for slurping oysters on the spot, like the Blue Points we had at last night’s private event.

These Blue Points were wonderfully briny and delicious. Firm, plump oyster meat with some initial sweetness with a salty finish. We had probably slurped a two dozen or so between us.

The cooked and prepared foods that were passed out were a gently spiked tequila infused smoked salmon rosettes filled with cream cheese and topped with parsley. The mini crabs, lobster rolls, and tomato-based clam chowders were very good. There were plates of clams oreganata passed around that was herbaceous and maintained a very fair amount of clam juice.

Spoons of fried oysters

We adored the spoons of fried oysters passed out, as they were piping hot and fresh from the fryer and it managed to be incredibly juicy with oyster liquor under the thin breading.

They are going to serve the full menu, according to the staff, starting today but no lunch service yet.
