Marble Lane located at the beautiful and hip Dream Downtown Hotel is a fairly new restaurant located in the Chelsea/Meatpacking District.

This restaurant has an open-floor plan that once you enter this hotel on West 16th Street, you’d be practically greeted by the hostess and can’t help staring at the eye-catching, sea of drop-ceiling spherical lights and straight down is the hotel’s lobby where one may lounge at their plush silver leather sofas and look out at the lush back garden area even though the temperature of Manhattan was in the high 30s.

First round of food

My dining companion and I arrived for a weekend lunch starving and thought of having two rounds of food, so to speak. We started with a cappuccino (photo; $5) to give us a little caffeine jolt to start the day. The crab cake benedict ($18) with grilled asparagus, roasted red pepper, whole grain mustard hollandaise was pretty good. Large chunks of sweet crab meat loosely packed but the oozy poached egg made this enjoyable. The quinoa and watercress salad ($16) with grilled jumbo shrimp, roasted market vegetables, topped with tortilla chips were the healthiest option we chose and it was very satisfying.

The next courses of food were the steak sandwich ($16) stuffed with arugula, caramelized onions, provolone in a sturdy, toasted baguette with a side of french fries, cornichons, and pickled jalapeno pepper. The meat was tender but the components of the sandwich that makes it amazing. The funk of provolone cheese, the sweetness of the onions and sharp bitterness of the fresh arugula brought everything together.

The lobster roll ($19) with a side of french fries, cornichons, and apple slaw surprised me how great this was. After eating a number of various lobster rolls in Manhattan, this was arguably one of my favorites and it’s reasonably priced for its size (it can satiate a normal person’s stomach without ordering much else). The lobster meat was chopped in large chunks, tossed in a light coating of mayonnaise and a healthy sprinkling of fresh tarragon, served in a lightly toasted buttered roll.

I highly recommend ordering the side dish of sweet potato fries ($6) served with harissa mayonnaise on the side. The potatoes were sweet and crispy that I couldn’t stop eating them even though I was stuffed. It’s great alone or with that spicy mayonnaise.

I would definitely come back to eat here if I were around the neighborhood (shopping or clubbing) since the food is reasonably priced for where it is and each dish is portioned large enough to make you feel full.
